Safety Training FAQs

What course(s) do I need to take?

  1. Ask your professor* or laboratory manager
  2. You can read the information on each individual safety training course (click on the name of the training course below), and then look at the sections 鈥淭arget Audience鈥� and 鈥淐ontent鈥�
  3. A refresher course (ie. re-taking the course and exam) is required every three years if your laboratory risks have not changed

* Note: your professor may organize a training session for a specific class, so it is best to verify with them first.

WHMIS

  • WHMIS 2015 is required if you work in a lab with chemicals, biological or radioactive materials. This course is also needed if you work with laser equipment or in a workshop or a garage.

Hazardous Waste Disposal Training

  • This course is required if you produce laboratory waste during the course of your work, and/or need access to a waste room.
