Former °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê studentÌýRussell T. Shinohara has been named the recipient of the 2023 Mortimer Spiegelman Award for "hisÌýimportantÌýcontributions to biostatistics and imaging, as well as his proven track record of leadership and mentorship."Ìý

Dr.ÌýShinohara was an undergraduate and master's student in the °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê Department of Mathematics and Statistics and completed his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. He is now a Professor of Biostatistics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

To celebrate , the Office of Science Outreach released a free lesson plan for elementary school teachers. The lesson, titled “Travelling seeds†explores how seeds are dispersed. The activities and discussions center inquiry-based learning, to encourage nature discovery through hands-on experiences and observations.

The lesson was shared with science consultants across English and French school boards in the Greater Montreal area and has already received over 40 downloads.

Alongside ALL IN 2023 happening in Montreal, global video game leader Ubisoft, Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, the world’s largest academic deep learning (DL) research institute, and °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê are proud to announce the creation of Ubisoft-Mila's new research Chair,ÌýScaling Game Worlds with Responsible AI. This five-year Chair will be led by °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê’s Associate Professor, Dr. Derek Nowrouzezahrai, and will explore the ethical use of AI in the large-scale game development content creation pipeline.

If you’ve been meaning to visit °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê’s Redpath Museum, now is the time.

The historical building will undergo major renovations to bring it up to modern standards thanks to Ministry of Education grants, operating and accessibility funds, and the support of generous donors. The public can visit until the end of this year but will find doors closed at the start of 2024 when the work to pack and safely store the collections will begin. The construction part of the renovations will begin once that is completed, likely in the summer.
