On April 25, the city of Montreal and the Conseil régional de l’environnement honoured °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê’sÌýSustainability Projects FundÌý(SPF) with one of three prestigious awards at their annual Gala de reconnaissance en environnement et développement durable. The SPF was recognized in the Institutions and Enterprises category, for its innovative and inspiring work in financing the transition to sustainability on °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê campuses.

On April 3, the °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê Office of Sustainability (MOOS) hosted its seventh annual Catalyst Awards Gala. Over 100 people gathered at the McCord Museum to celebrate individuals and teams who have made lasting contributions to the sustainability of the University.

At a ceremony in Halifax on February 25, °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê was named Fair Trade Campus of the Year byÌýFairtrade Canada, making us No. 1 among the 21 designated fair trade campuses across Canada. The award was granted by an independent panel of judges to the campus with the strongest commitment to fair trade.

OnÌýMay 24-25, 2016, experts from the field of green (sustainable) chemistry gathered in Washington, DC, for a workshop on Sustainable Chemistry Technologies. The event was organized by the National Academy of Science’s Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology at the request of the United States General Accountability Office.

Four years of innovative projects and collaborative action planning have upgraded °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê’s rating in sustainability to Gold in the newest version of the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS).

Among other achievements, the increasing integration of sustainability in curriculum, research, dining services, and purchasing helped °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê achieve Gold. The last time °Ä¿Í¾º²Ê reported to STARS, a self-reported assessment tool developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), in 2012, it earned a silver rating.
