Mentorship Program

Mentorship Program

Interested in learning from someone who’s already walked the path you're on—or giving back by supporting someone earlier in their journey? The B.A. in Population and Global Health Mentorship Program fosters meaningful, student-centred connections between undergraduate and graduate students in the field of global health.

You can consult ourÌýFile Mentorship Program GuideÌýfor a quick overview or explore our Mentorship Handbook (pending) for in-depth resources, templates and strategies to support your mentorship journey.

Program Overview

Each year, we match graduate students from the School of Population and Global Health with undergraduate students in our B.A. program based on shared academic interests, professional goals and personal alignment. It’s a rewarding experience for both mentors and mentees, focused on building supportive, reflective relationships.

Who Can Be a Mentor?

We welcome graduate students from the School of Population and Global Health who are:

  • Interested in mentoring undergraduate students;
  • Eager to share insights from their academic and professional journeys;
  • Committed to fostering inclusive, respectful learning environments.

What Kind of Support Can Mentors Offer?

This program is not intended to replace formal student services. Undergraduate students continue to benefit from:

  • Student Affairs Office
  • Counseling and Mental Health Services
  • Student Accessibility and Achievement
  • Student Aid and other university supports

As a mentor, you are not expected to serve as a counselor or career advisor. Instead, we ask you to:

  • Share your lived academic and professional experiences;
  • Provide encouragement and perspective;
  • Offer informal guidance on topics like navigating school stress, balancing academic demands and exploring life after graduation in global health.

For many undergraduates, simply hearing about your journey can be transformative.

Time Commitment

We understand you’re busy—this program is designed to be flexible and low-pressure.

  • Commitment: One interaction per month (September to April)
  • Format: Email, video call or in-person—whatever works for you and your mentee
  • Next steps: You’ll be matched in September and contacted directly by your mentee

There’s no obligation to stay in touch beyond the academic year, although we hope some relationships will continue informally.

We’ll reach out again next summer to see if you’d like to participate in the following year.
