Anatomy and Cell Biology - News /anatomy/channels_item/4 en New publication from the Bui Lab in Current Biology on cilia tip structure /anatomy/node/1916
Motile cilia are specialized organelles essential for cell movement and fluid flow, driven by the beating of their internal cytoskeleton called the axoneme. At the core of the axoneme lies the central pair (CP) of microtubules, which features a distinct distal tip structure critical for motility. However, the proteins stabilizing this region have remained largely unknown.
Mon, 14 Jul 2025 16:16:09 +0000 Ŀ; New publication in Science from the Bernard lab with former and current Cell Biology graduate students Emilie Brûlé and Hailey Schultz /anatomy/node/1898
Myostatin is a paracrine myokine that regulates muscle mass in a variety of species, including humans. In this work, they report a functional role for myostatin as an endocrine hormone that directly promotes pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis and thereby ovarian function in mice. Previously, this FSH-stimulating role was attributed to other members of the transforming growth factor-β family, the activins. Their results both challenge activin's eponymous role in FSH synthesis and establish an unexpected endocrine axis between skeletal muscle and the pituitary gland.
Thu, 20 Mar 2025 17:56:32 +0000 Ŀ; Celebrating Dedication & Commitment /anatomy/node/1896
Honoring our incredible team members for their years of service and dedication! 💙👏 Your hard work and passion make all the difference. It relies on the beautiful and complex machinery of the mitotic spindle to ensure the accurate distribution of genetic material. When these microtubules don't work properly, cells can end up with the wrong number of chromosomes, a condition known as aneuploidy, which is linked to cancer.
Wed, 28 Feb 2024 20:51:42 +0000 Ŀ; Graduate student Kalley Kho is first author in a new JCI publication /anatomy/node/1833
Severe kidney dysfunction in sialidosis mice reveals an essential role for neuraminidase 1 in reabsorption
Tue, 07 Nov 2023 16:14:33 +0000 Ŀ; Postdoc Thibault Legal has a new publication in the Journal of Cell Biology /anatomy/node/1832
CEP104/FAP256 and associated cap complex maintain stability of the ciliary tip
Mon, 06 Nov 2023 19:58:43 +0000 Ŀ; The Ŀ; Reporter has profiled the Body Donor Program. /anatomy/node/1831
Ŀ;’s Body Donor Program plays crucial role in health sciences education

Overall, donors have an impact on the education of more than a thousand students every year.
Thu, 02 Nov 2023 20:12:44 +0000 Ŀ; PhD student Neha Dinesh recognized by the American Society of Matrix Biology /anatomy/node/1828
Neha Dinesh, PhD student in the Reinhardt lab, won the Iozzo Trainee Award at the combined conference of the American Society for Matrix Biology, the American Society for Investigative Pathology, and the Histochemical Society held in Salt Lake City, Utah from Oct 22-25, 2023.
